Robert KKK Byrd proves he is a hypocrit.

October 22, 2007

Back when the Senate voted on an amendment condemning the ad placed in the NY Times by MoveOn.org referring to General Petraeus as General "Betray Us", I called the Senate office of Robert KKK Byrd to share my displeasure with his failing to vote in favor of this amendment.

I recently recieved a letter from his office in regard to that exchange.  The letter was dated October 4, 2007 and in it he explained that while he disagreed "with the manner in which the MoveOn.org advertisment questioned the integrity and patriotism of General Petraeus", he could not vote in favor of the amendment to condemn the ad.  He explained that the amendment was "attempting to censure a private organization;s exercise of free speech".  He went on to say, "That is a right guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution, and I will not support its infringement."

The hypocrisy is shown in the fact that just TWO DAYS EARLIER than the date on my letter, Senate Byrd signed the infamous "Rush Limbaugh Smear Letter".  A letter which not only blantantly misrepresented Mr. Limbaugh's words, but also asked for his employer to "repudiate these comments" and for Mr. Limbaugh to apologize for his comments.

The Senator has proved once again for all who read this that when Democrats talk about "free speech", they are only talking about THEIR "free speech".

I am in the process of sending back the Senator's letter back to him along with a copy of the Limbaugh letter asking him to explain his hypocrisy.
